Categories:

Ancient Geography: A chill category, perfect for anyone that likes looking at maps and self-paced study. Less competitive than most categories, but gives opportunities to get to State and Nats. We learn about all of the Mediterranean; roads, major cities, ancient monuments, providences, and the city of Rome.

Classical Art: Sculptures, history, temples, mythology—Classical Art is a place where graphic artists, art fanatics, history lovers—in all, curious students can come to learn about the history of their favorite works. Classical art is a category which blends pursuits of academic learning and graphic arts cultivation. We learn of the history, the methodology, and inspiration behind compositions of ancient civilization. If you want to heighten your active recall skills, look at ancient artwork and say, “hey, I know that one!”, and/or join a community of intellectuals/creatives, Classical Art is the place for you!

Dramatic Interpretation: Perfect for any drama enthusiasts! In DI, we explore a passage from the classics: context, memorization, the emotions to portray, gestures… It’s all about embodying (acting like) the character (become the GOAT Aeneas) and portraying what they represent: Are they the hero or the villain? Which one will you be?

Grammar: Imagine journeying to ancient Rome 2000 years ago to visit your glorious Julius Caesar, but you can’t understand what he’s saying! If you don’t want to find yourself in this predicament then join Grammar. We learn about all the different types of conventions that ancient Romans would have used in their daily lives: from everything you could know about verbs to the intricacies of whatever gerundives are, we learn about EVERYTHING in the Latin language. So next time you see your friends, you can brag to them about how much you know about Latin and get shamed for being a nerd 🤓 (don’t worry this didn’t actually happen to me I’m totally kidding).

Graphic Arts: Are you passionate about drawing or interested in the idea of creating tangible, artistic representations of classical subjects? Graphic Arts offers a unique opportunity for Latin Club members to explore the intersection of classical studies and artistic expression. In this category, you'll delve into mythology, refine your artistic skills, and discover how these two realms intertwine. Dive into Graphic Arts with us and discover how ancient tales can come alive on your canvas!

Greek Derivatives: Ranging from your biology/medical textbook, all the way to archaic words in the Bible, EVEN WORDS IN THIS VERY SENTENCE, Greek Derivatives is seemingly everywhere. Once introduced to the expansive world of derivatives there is no escape. The Greek roots infiltrate your everyday word of thought, until you inevitability admit… you have become a master. Join this category, and together we will learn the many English words that have stemmed from Greek, how they came to be, and the peculiar origins of words you use everyday.

Greek History: Greek History is all about the Ancient Greeks, starting from 3000 BCE to the rule of Alexander the Great. In this category you’ll learn all about he major events and conflict, such as the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars. If any of this seems interesting to you, the people of Greek History would love to have you!

Greek Life & Literature: Have you heard of the Greek heroes of old, Achilles and Odysseus, and of the Greek gods like Dionysos, Zeus, and Hephaestos? Do you want to learn the stories and tragedies written about them and of how the ancients Hellenics lived? If any of that interests you, come and join Greek Life and Lit.

Latin Derivatives:  Well, how does Latin apply to your everyday life, your everyday language? Behold, Latin derivatives! With the word “derivative” itself coming from Latin’s “rivus” or river, in this category, prepare to hoist your sails and come chart out through the “river” of languages with us, learning how words, letters, and their meanings have flowed from Latin to English. Only in this category will you know what true companionship means — “one with whom you share bread” coming from “com” meaning with and “panis” meaning bread. But, really! You’ll find yourself drawing connections and developing unique understandings of what words are really trying to convey. Your vocabulary will expand drastically and, most importantly, you’ll be equipped with the superpower of deducing the meaning of even some of the wonkiest English words!!

Latin Literature: Learn all about ancient authors and their works, find a new passion and appreciate for classical literature! from martial to vergil- become an expert on what drove the Romans to write. :)

Latin Oratory: Looking to boost your public speaking skills while sounding like a Roman senator? Join Latin oratory! you'll be delivering speeches in Latin and feeling epic doing it. Plus, who wouldn't want to say "veni, vidi, vici" and actually know what it means?

Mottoes, Quotes, & Abbreviations: Tempus fugit when you join mottoes! In mottoes, we cover everything from state mottoes to medical abbreviations to even quotes of Vergil, Horace, Terence, and more!

Mythology: Hey there!! Mythology will cover a variety of tales and stories of many important gods, heroes, events, and many more. This category can be difficult and requires good memorization skills so just a heads up, however it’s very interesting and super fun and weird. Join this category if you’re truly dedicated to learning mythology. This category will help you remember important characters to specific events in Greek/Roman history that you will be learning in class.

Roman History - Empire: What’s cooler than learning about THE Roman Empire. You get to learn about the Emperors and conspiracies which are unironically hilarious. Did you know that Claudius was hiding behind a curtain, fearing for his life? Then they're like no dude we named you emperor. There are a bunch of funny stories but also so many inspiring people. You WILL expand your mind. You WILL gain an understanding of history that you can find nowhere else. You WILL never regret choosing the Roman Empire.

Roman History - Republic: ET TU BRUTE?? YOU DON’T WANT TO LEARN THE ORIGIN STORY BEHIND THE GREATEST CIVILIZATION OF ALL TIME???? oh you do? Well, join Republic to learn all secrets of the civilization that inspired basically of all modern civilizations and democracy (definitely not stolen from the Greeks ;)). We go through the legendary origins of Romulus and Remus to the (spoiler alert) assassination of one Julius Caesar, and all the goofy stories and epic battles in between. It is an incredible story that YOU don’t want to miss!

Roman Life: Do you love learning about ancient Roman culture? Do you want to be a Roman4Lifer? Roman Life is the place for you! Come join us and learn in depth all about how the Romans lived, what they ate, where they went, and how they spent their time. Roman Life is the coolest table in the cafeteria! Be cool and join Roman Life!!

Vocabulary: VOCAB. It’s a very literal category. I’m sure you found out what this category is about just with the name. You learn all types of vocab from pater to honorificabilitudinitatibus. This category genuinely helps in class and on tests (especially reading comp). This category will help you be laetus and callidus.
