Nationals 2024 Recap!

The entire Nationals group after the final dance and state fellowship!

Salvete, Latin Club families!

This is the very last email that I will send to this listserv before making a new one for this upcoming school year, so if you're a parent of a graduated senior, thank you so much for your support of your kids in our Latin program over the past four years!

It's been a few weeks, but I wanted to do a recap of how the Latin Club did at Nationals:

In late July, 40 members of the HCHS Latin Club traveled 24 hours by bus to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for the National Convention of the Junior Classical League for a weeklong extravaganza of competition, learning, and fun! As usual, we sent more students to Nationals than any other school in the country. Our kids won a lot of awards (68 ribbons for 1st-5th places), had many enriching educational experiences, and had a blast!

Students not only took tests, they made art, danced, sang, cheered, played agon (Greek quiz bowl), competed in swimming and track contests, attended academic colloquia, participated in parliamentary-procedure-guided direct democracy, sold carbonized Pompeiian bread plushies, and made friends from across the country (especially Alaska!).

Some truly outstanding student results include Pratheek Thalathoti and Arpita Biswal, who got the highest overall scores on their tests (Greek Life and Lit and Greek Derivatives), irrespective of level; and Zeel Patel and Shani Tripathy, who got 1st and 2nd place overall in graphic arts off the back of 15 ribbons for their many artworks.

Major thanks to former club members Brian Van Eimeren (my brother, class of 2008), Sarah Roh (my sister-in-law, senior consul, class of 2008), and Emma Buhrman (senior consul, class of 2022), who once again paid their own registration to chaperone our kids and support our Latin Club! Our students loved working with them and finding out about the history of this beautiful program we have. :)

Here is a list of all of our 1st-10th place results, organized by student last name. Congratulations to everyone who attended convention!

I'm attaching a few pictures here, but here is a link to a big photo album if you want to see more!

We look forward to another really strong year of Latin Club! Thank you all for your continued support!

Truly,

Kenny
