2025 State Convention

2025 State Convention Information

Dear Latin Club families,

In two weeks (April 4-5), we will travel to Bellaire HS in Houston for the 2025 State Latin convention.  We are excited that your child is one of the 95 students that will represent HCHS.  In order to conduct this trip, there are many moving parts and details that need to be coordinated.  Please read the following carefully for important information and action items.

Informational things:

  • State 2025 Itinerary: This document contains the basic itinerary and packing list of our trip.  As changes occur, it will be updated accordingly.

  • State 2025 Hotel Rooming for students: See this document for your rooming assignments.  Students, we carefully considered your preferences, but if there is a truly pressing concern, please let us know individually.

  • TSJCL State conduct policy: This document outlines the conduct and behavior policies all attendees, students and adults alike, are expected to follow.

  • We're so grateful to have 11 adults on board with our group: in addition to myself and Mr. V, we have 3 HCHS alums who have chaperoned before in Emma Buhrman, Ainsley Weiss, and Isabella Brown, and 6 parents in Tania Sanchez, Amy Apodaca, Dina and Taner Kaya, and Tiffany and Takorie Temmis.

Action Items: what needs to be done before April 4

  • Students, if you have circumstances that differ from our itinerary - for example, you have another contest Friday and will join us in Houston later, or you're being picked up Saturday night and won't travel back with us - please notify john.chu@nisd.net and kenneth.vaneimeren@nisd.net immediately so we can plan accordingly.

  • Turn in both the State conduct form and permission form, completed and signed, by Friday, March 28.  See your Latin teacher if you need another copy.

  • If you are one of the Students who placed 1st or 2nd at Area convention in an academic or performance contest who will have their $45 State registration fee covered by NISD, make sure to get the refund from us this week.

  • For those of you who still need to pay for State, please turn in the payment by the date arranged in the "Promise to Pay" form.

  • If you signed up to do an art or classical civ contest, keep up the hard work.  Show us what you have to get feedback!

What's Coming Up

  • This Wednesday, 3/26, we'll share more info about the actual convention itself like the schedule of events and features.

  • Next Wednesday, April 2, is our State Crunch Time until 8:30 pm.  This is our longer meeting where our specialists will do some final studying, take a practice test, rehearse performances, and display the art they've created.  Students, join us for as long as you can!

Please reach out to us if you have any questions or need additional information.  Thank you!
